Wow, it kinda feels like I'm the only one who thought Torchwood was surprisingly awesome. It was all dark and morally ambiguous, and dear lord, someone taught the monkeys what a plot is and how to execute one effectively.

I have a ~two week break between the end of my summer classes and the beginning of the new semester. I am deliberating between going to NY to see the family for two weeks (Aug 6th-21st), or going to the IAI Conference for a week. Shiny panels on fingerprinting vs. adorable babycakeses. Decisions are HARD, yo.

Argh. The FDLE Tampa Crime Lab is not answering their phone. And it automatically disconnects me after I've been ringing for like 2 minutes. And they apparently don't have an answering machine? WHY DO THEY EVEN HAVE A PHONE NUMBER ON THEIR WEBSITE?

Boo, went by Walmart before class hoping to find some on-sale Easter candy. They had nothing. Very disappointing.

Eeee, just got a Dreamwidth invite.

Now to ponder what name to use, this one or justjking which I tend to use everywhere else. Thoughts? :D

Am stressed about Tuesday's tests and a combination of horrified and bemused over Amazon Fail. Am kinda upset that my order of a memory card already shipped so I can't cancel that, but I sent an email to customer support anyways.

Urgh, they ended up moving my Trace exam to Wednesday, so now I have a lab report due on Tuesday, a giant lab until 7:30pm, then my Trace exam 8:30am Wednesday and then a paper due and a presentation right after. Why do they insist on pushing all my stuff together? I was happy with it spaced out!

If this semester is good for one thing, it's reminding me of how much I loathe Excel. And I have my next Advanced Analyt test this week. *shudder*

At least I have a newly tie-dyed lab coat and awesome license plates to cheer me up. I saw a "WTF NOOB" one the other day, which I dub as nifty as the "L GRECO" one I saw awhile back. I long for it.

...some lawncare guy just came to the door and asked me if my mom or dad or someone who could make decisions was home. I'm twenty four! I LOOK twenty four! WTF.

Test was mediocre.

My mp3 player broke the other day. Am despondent from the loss. I feel so naked without it.

Studying for tomorrow's test would go much quicker if I didn't have to attend all these classes. Had to borrow an organic book from Dr Mattson, hopefully will help with the polymers for Trace.

Mattson told me I had a great smile and he really likes my attitude. Fookes told me I have a great smile last semester. They've both commented on me smiling all the time. Clearly am not projecting the proper air of cynicism.

Will have to work on that.

Jackass in lab yesterday started yelling at us to stop running our samples because we were taking too long. He tried to claim that we didn't have to run the blank 16 times, that we could just copy and paste it 16 times and they'd never know the difference. Stacey and I were sooo close to punching him in the face, as logical discourse had proven to be unsuccessful. A. The lab instructions SAY to run the blank 16 times, we had to run analysis on it and B. We'd have been done already if we weren't wasting time arguing with him. Then the GTA came back in and he started whining to him. The GTA told him that we were right, and then he was like "You do realize this lab goes til 7:30 right? It's only 5." That shut jackass up and he wandered off to his lab bench to sulk.

First exam of the semester was sort of brutal. Was way more polymers than I was expecting. Next is Advanced Analytical Chem on Thursday. I just want to curl up and sleep.

Anyone else irked that glarkware's down until late February? I missed out on the In Soviet Russia shirt sale right before Christmas and was filled with woe. One day it will be mine!

Hey Hollywood. STOP REMAKING PERFECTLY GOOD SHOWS.

Instead of "Americanizing" shows like Life on Mars and AbFab, maybe you should try showing the original versions. Like Doctor Who, I can assure you that these shows will also have an audience here in the States. No one wants a repeat of that wretched Red Dwarf USA fiasco. Or Coupling. Or that insipid Blackpool remake. Seriously, WTF are you guys on?

This is almost as upsetting as the RHPS remake or the alleged Hairspray sequel.

At long last, the month of excruciating exams is at an end. Now I have a brief hiatus before it starts up again. The next one is next Friday. Is almost like a vacation. Only with homework and classes and other non-vacationy things.

Took the morning to catch up on sleep, think it finally cured me of the cold and headache that has been plaguing me due to stress.

Heroes is being disappointing this season, luckily my other Monday shows are doing a nice job of cheering me up. Also, I am ridiculously happy that Pushing Daisies is back on. Shiny show is shiny.

Working on Exodar rep for Therani, if I have to play a filthy alliance now and then, at the very least she'll have an Elekk to decrease her lameness. Returned to Zan for a bit last night, missed my orc! With my luck, the patch'll come in the midst of my next batch of tests and I won't have a chance to enjoy it.

Fics that Broke My Brain and Then Put It Back Together Better Than It Was Before [10 Aug 2008|04:21pm]

Always Walking Away by Amy Wolf - DW
Author Summary: He never thought he'd say that many goodbyes to the same person.
Why I love it: I have this thing where I long for ____ is secretly a fobwatched ____ fic. This hits that (twice!) in a gorgeous twisted timeline sort of way.

Threads That Are Golden Don’t Break Easily by [info]paperclipbitch - TW/Narnia
Author's Summary: Susan meets Captain Harkness at various points in her life.
Why I love it: This explains away the write-off of Susan at the end of the Narnia series and is sad and beautiful and just go read it. Yes, even if you don't like TW. (This means you, Rinney)

Freedom's Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose by [info]synecdochic - SGA
Author's Summary: SGC finally stops calling him by December. Rodney celebrates by writing a final exam for his relativity class so difficult that it reduces four students to tears in the exam hall. Upon reflection, he decides to be merciful and offer partial credit.
Why I love this: I have no words for how heartbreakingly awesome this is.

My Name is John Sheppard: I'm a Mathematician by [info]thingswithwings - SGA/Mathnet (yes, seriously)
Why I love it: This is on the list more for being sheer delicious crack than for any mind blowing epiphanies. But still. It's Mathnet.

Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodies by [info]copperbadge - TW/SGA
Author's summary: Ianto neglected to introduce himself as he informed the senior staff that Atlantis was now under the jurisdiction of Torchwood, whatever Torchwood is. Set during S1, pre-Siege.
Why I love this: I read pretty much all of Sam's fics, and while this is probably not nearly as well known as his TW meets a LOLcat crackfic or his HP epics, it is definitely a worthwhile read. TW lays a smackdown on SGA for various crimes of stupidity committed in S1. I wish someone had called SGA on their crap, and while Team TW is not considered competent by any definition of the word, a coup is successfully pulled.

This list is more for my benefit than yours, my memories have become slightly unwieldy (need to do a major overhaul of those) and I don't want to lose track of these. You may be able to tell from this list that the amount of crossovers that I am reading has increased exponentially. You can all just thank your lucky stars that I refrained from reccing some of the crackier ones I've been devouring. Like Chuck vs. the Crazy Alien Vampires.
